"I was introduced to the Maxx by a guy in my high school art class. I originally was only interested because the artwork was so cool, and spent many art periods learning figure drawing from it. After reading it, though, I realized that the story was just as good. Since then, I've been hooked, and have collected all the issues, taped the TV show, and even managed to find one of those Maxx action figures (white is). Typical rabid fan stuff, I know. Anyway, I'm now a junior at San Francisco State, majoring in Animal Science, and laboring under the delusion that I'll eventually get into U.C. Davis and become a veterinarian. In my spare time I work at a pet food store, go watch local punk bands at various clubs, listen to Bad Religion and They Might Be Giants at home (for the most part) with my cockatiel, Rugby, at home, and volunteer at the local animal shelter. I still draw quite a bit (I was an art major for a while), and like to tell myself that I'm almost as good as Sam Kieth (or any other "professional" comic book artist, for that matter). Um, I think that's enough rambling for now...."

Introduction to The Maxx: "By seeing the animated series a few times, though I had actually bought an ish before that, but it's a long time ago and I am suffering from a little early dementia. And still I've never had a problem following the plot."
Favourite Issue: "# 13 with Sarah's gramp. Sam's best in showing people's insides out. Of showing people who are simultanously trying to deal with and escape from reality. It sounds gross but you know what I mean. It may be the voice of the therapist giving some balancing feedback, or the magnificent drawing of the loss in his eyes or the bit of magic that slips in by means of the outback. Anyway it was just perfect and I've had to re-read it many times."

Unanswered Questions: "What is reality? Do you exist and for that matter do I exist? How does the universe relate to itself? Will writing become obsolete? Does anybody know the title of that TV-movie about two women going to Alaska after one of them breaks up her marriage? One of the two being the tough one at first and the other one (the wallflower so to speak) later. And then in Alaska everything turning out pretty cool in the end. It is sort of a soft version of Thelma and Louise but I definitely liked it far better. Anyone?"

"I bought and read the entire Maxx series in four months (limiting myself to one issue every night) because the first few issues seemed to fit a quote I had just read: 'Love takes off masks that we fear we can not live without and know we can not live within.' (by, er, 'James'? Baldwin)"
